Review by Library Journal Review

Calcutta-born Satyajit Ray (1921-92) launched his acclaimed career with Pather Panchali, about an impoverished Bengal boy named Apu, who turns teen student in Aparajito and college grad in Apur Sansar. Influenced by Italian neorealism, Ray departed from traditionally musical Indian cinema in favor of a slice-of-life approach tinged with lyricism. A herculean reconstruction effort on fire-ravaged original negatives has restored the celebrated trilogy's beautiful imagery, telling the poignant story of a life marked by familial love and loss. A must-have classic. © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
