Review by Library Journal Review

Climo's new collection is either a good, quirky gift book or a forgettable comic. Cute animals kindle relationships, play practical jokes, and put on tiny party hats for no particular reason. Each comic takes up only two panels-usually, the first panel offers a peculiar setup and the second is a soft punch line, worthy of a titter or a smirk. Most deal with the smallest moments of friendships. A snake tries to provide a shoulder to lean on, a lazy sloth and koala literally "hang out" all night. The great carnivores of the animal kingdom are kinder and gentler-a lion attacks a zebra...in a tickle fight. The illustrations are bubbly and clear but ultimately unremarkable, save for the occasional hammerhead shark wearing 3-D glasses. There is an appeal to Climo's earnest, unironic assortment of oddballs committing acts of kindness and whimsy, yet it doesn't amount to much-which is okay, depending on what you expect from your cute animal comics. Verdict With all the edge of a humorous greeting card, Lobster would make a fine present of gratitude for a good friend but doesn't make any attempt to plumb the depths of compelling comic book territory.-Emilia Packard, Austin, TX © Copyright 2015.
