Review by Publisher's Weekly Review
Layne's standout second New York's Finest contemporary (after Frisk Me) pairs the oldest brother in a family of cops with a sweet and sassy waitress. Police Capt. Anthony Moretti has no doubt that he'll one day reach his dream of becoming police commissioner, but a cocky burglar continues to outsmart him. He's obsessed with thoughts of how to finally catch the conniving criminal, and his last relationship ended badly, so he's reluctant to get involved with anyone-even Maggie Walker, the cute, accident-prone waitress his family adores. Everyone in Maggie's life needs something from her, and no matter how much she may want to say no, she always gives in. All she wants is to get her book published so she can make a much-needed career change. When she realizes the burglar is her ex-husband and teams up with Anthony to catch him, their relationship becomes much more complicated than the case. Readers will love getting to know the Monetti family better, and the story's pacing is flawless. This bold contemporary serves up quick-witted banter, a hint of suspense, and a nice set-up for the next installment. Agent: Nicole Resciniti, Seymour Agency. (Dec.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC.
