Review by Booklist Review

Each page spread in this oversize book presents two- or three-color depictions of a specific body organ or anatomical system. One or two paragraphs per spread describe in an informal and chatty tone the basic functionality and role or connection to other systems. Aspects of the illustrations are labeled to identify specific parts and to show flow of movement through an organ, such as blood flowing through the heart's ventricles and arterial system. The illustrations are, for the most part, cutaways placed on a background of flat, vivid color. Almost all the typeface is white, which can be difficult to read especially the paragraphs, which are set in a relatively small font against light backgrounds. Comparison sizes and lengths are offered in terms that will both inform and engage young readers, though with no index or further resources provided, this is perhaps better suited for casual browsing. Pair with Ken Jennings' The Human Body (2015) or Maris Wicks' Human Body Theater (2015) for a more comprehensive look at body function.--Goldsmith, Francisca Copyright 2016 Booklist
