Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Senator Sanders's gravelly voice and dramatic presentation are surely familiar to listeners. He reads with the same sincerity and earnestness he brought to audiences throughout his extraordinary primary campaign for president of the United States. A seasoned orator, he's particularly good at changing speed and intonation to emphasize the points he wants you to understand and absorb. Actor Ruffalo sounds subdued by comparison; though he is an ardent fan of Sanders, he doesn't muster the energy, urgency and hopefulness that Sanders does. Though the text touches on many points from his recent campaign, it adds much personal and political history and detailed plans on every issue. The recording was made prior to the 2016 election, and Sanders's optimistic tone reflects his high hopes that in the coming administration his "future to believe in" might begin to be realized. Sanders shares his personal account from the 2016 presidential campaign trail and lays the foundation for furthering the movement he brought to millions of Americans. From his humble beginnings in a rent-controlled New York City apartment to important work shaping the future of the United States, Senator Sanders details his rise in politics and his hard-fought climb from fringe candidate to major player. Sanders shares, with detailed rationale and supporting evidence, all of his key stances, including the hot topics of wealth inequality, social justice reform, and universal health care. This book is not simply a policy manifesto but a heartfelt display of motivation, emotion, and the desire to make the world a better place for everyone. The narration by Sanders and actor Mark Ruffalo helps drive home the message and brings out the passion for which this political movement is famous. Sanders followers will be familiar with his unique voice and style of speaking, while others may need to focus a bit harder not to miss anything. Verdict A must-listen for Sanders followers and an all-around good program for those interested in political science.-Sean Kennedy, Univ. of Akron © Copyright 2017.
