Review by Library Journal Review

Former Country Music magazine managing editor and publicist Saviano is well suited to write about the personal and musical life of country musician Guy Clark (1941-2016). Clark aided Saviano by providing access to his family archives, friends, and himself. As evidenced in her writing and by her "Notes on Sources" at the end of the book, Saviano consulted a long list of primary sources, including more than 100 interviewees, such as Clark's friends and professional colleagues, some on multiple occasions. Starting with Clark's family history in Texas and continuing with his recording career and influence, the author concentrates on Clark's relationships with his wife, Susanna Clark, who died in 2012, and fellow Texas singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt. An abundance of photographs and documents, most never seen before, add to the context of his life and will be easily appreciated by admirers. Verdict Only the second book written solely about Guy Clark, this is a well-informed, in-depth look at his life and career, suitable for any fan or country music lover.-Elizabeth Berndt-Morris, Boston P.L. © Copyright 2016.
