Review by Library Journal Review

This guide offers folk designs that are an appealing combination of traditional and modern imagery. Self-taught professional designer Mirtalipova grew up in Uzbekistan, and her interpretation of the Ukrainian, Russian, and Uzbek folk art of her childhood is presented here in the form of a whimsical forest. Flowers, plants, insects, birds, people, houses, myths, and fairy tales are the motifs of the simple exercises. There are also chapters on decorative elements, lettering, and related projects. Many exercises include a brief mention of the symbolism behind the theme or the author's memories of her mother's or grandmother's use of similar representations. VERDICT People of all artistic skill levels can enjoy this guide, and parents, especially, may want to try the projects with their children. © Copyright 2017.
