An award-winning pet and wildlife photographer, Cearns (Mother Knows Best: Life Lessons from the Animal Kingdom; Joy: A Celebration of the Animal Kingdom) brings her web series of the same name to life in this slim, delightful collection of canine portraits. Caught in a moment of bliss with their eyes closed, the dogs each have a page dedicated to capturing their joyful spirit. Some appear to be laughing; some appear deep in thought; some appear ready to nod off, comforted in knowing they are unconditionally loved. This book features Suzi the Sharpei, whose picture inspired the original series name. Cearns's dogs, Pip and Pixel, are also included. After readers see the Zen dogs with their eyes closed, they can compare these portraits to those in a shorter section, "The Dogs with Eyes Wide Open." In addition to being an artist and educator, Cearns is a philanthropist who partners with numerous Australian and global animal welfare organizations.
