Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 3-8-This series quickly ramps up in difficulty, moving from leather-wrapped pens to a flipping gymnast model powered by a magnetic motor. Detailed instructions and prolific process photos help builders make their way through these projects, but adult assistance may be required nonetheless. Most call for specialty materials available at hardware or craft stores. While almost all of these crafts demonstrate one or more scientific principles (e.g., magnetism, oxidation, transfer of energy), the books do not directly address these concepts. VERDICT A few challenging projects for kids who want to expand their abilities. © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

These three installments each provide five progressively challenging handicraft projects involving robust materials (leather, metal, and wood) and STEAM competencies. While the products vary in terms of usefulness and desirability, amateurs can learn basic DIY skills as they follow the clear instructions with accompanying close-up photographs. Includes tips, techniques, and images of tools. Glos., ind.
