The newest volumes in the What if A . . . series cheerfully provide information on marine life in a fun, easily understood way. Laid out with jaunty cartoon drawings, each title asks a series of (frequently goofy) questions, and answers them with facts. Could a Shark Do Gymnastics? focuses on the great white shark, using the question Could a shark play tennis? to prompt discussion about a shark's abilities to sense nearby fish, and What if a shark went to the dentist? to provide details about a shark's general size, habitat, and capabilities. Each volume ends with some additional facts, a map of habitats, and a final postcard from the animal. The illustrations and the silly questions will engage younger readers, and the information, though cursory, is made both interesting and memorable.--Reagan, Maggie Copyright 2015 Booklist

This book places a shark in human situations to give readers an understanding of the animal's features and capabilities, including its ability to leap out of the water to catch prey. A sense of humor permeates both the text and accessible cartoon-style illustrations (e.g., the shark plays tennis to demonstrate its "big fins" and "powerful tail").
