Bosch's Bad Books trilogy roars to a fiery close in Clay's final, dragon-filled adventure. After freeing the dragon Ariella in Bad Luck (2016), Clay's vigil for her return is interrupted when he learns that his brother's friend Cass, and likely Ariella, has been captured by members of the evil organization Midnight Sun. Due to his ability to talk to animals, Clay is chosen for an undercover mission to the Keep, the desert-bound resort where Cass is being held, which turns out to be a Jurassic Park-like sanctuary for the cloning and raising of dragons. Bosch's patented sense of humor runs through the action-packed plot and comical footnotes as Clay does his best to free his friends. Calling upon the dragon-taming knowledge gleaned from the Secrets of the Occulta Draco, Clay faces untold dangers, uncovers the Midnight Sun's dastardly plan, mends his relationship with his brother, and even finds time for his first kiss. Series fans will doubtless be sad to bid these characters adieu, but they certainly go out in style.--Smith, Julia Copyright 2017 Booklist
