Get a life His & hers survival guide to IVF

Richard Mackney

Book - 2017

Richard and Rosie started trying to conceive after five years of being together but, two and a half years and countless prenatal vitamins and ovulation kits later, there hadn't been even a phantom pregnancy. So began their adventure into IVF, via blood tests, sperm tests, injections and probes, becoming involuntary experts on embryology through failure, despair, persistence and success. After 4 years, 3 different clinics, 2 positive pregnancy tests and 1 miscarriage, they finally had a successful pregnancy. GET A LIFE is the perfect down-to-earth guide for anyone thinking of embarking on fertility treatment. It's two books in one, a book of advice for women and a survival guide for men, each chapter mirrored but with very differen...t experience and advice. IVF is terrifying, awful and extraordinary in equal measures for both partners.

Review by Library Journal Review

In this hilarious, though at times heartbreaking, guide to one couple's incredibly complicated fertility/infertility journey through IVF, UK-based freelance writer Mackney and TV producer Bray share the journey of undergoing IVF (three times) in order to have a baby. With occasional insights and advice from reproductive medicine expert and gynecologist James -Nicopoullos, this book shares a lot of Bray's experience and emotions yet includes Mackney's perspective as well. Although there are other IVF guides, the personal feel (complete with humor, compassion, mistakes, confessions, and occasional crude language), along with the expertise, makes this a great resource that provides reassurance throughout. Though there are some UK-specific references (the National Health Service, English procedures, etc.), would-be parents from any country will find this immensely helpful. VERDICT A wonderful read for anyone going through the IVF process, or those interested in learning more about it.-Cheryl Yanek, Brooklyn © Copyright 2017.
