PreS-Gr 1-Two rosy-cheeked girls take off on a bicycle adventure through a magical winter world. On a cold afternoon, just as the first snow of the season has begun to fall, Chirri and Chirra bundle up and set off on a bicycle ride through the forest. There they are welcomed into an icy hall where they meet animals of all sorts; some playing games, others reading or skating. After they join in a game of marbles, soak in a hot spring, and devour some warm steamed buns, the girls are invited in to share a bear family's igloo for the night. There they fall asleep under the stars, completely cozy and certain they'll have wonderful dreams that night. This book is the third book about the cherubic sisters to reach the United States. The soft-hued and delicate colored-pencil illustrations place Chirri and Chirra in the middle of a wondrous and beautiful natural setting filled with cute and playful animals. The straightforward text helps explain a few elements, such as the hot spring and steamed buns, and the "dring-dring!" of their bicycle bells is an excellent and playful sound effect. VERDICT A cozy, wonderful, seasonal title that is sure to be please readers with its whimsical perfection.
