Review by Booklist Review

What exactly is baby-led weaning? House, a registered dietitian and nutritionist in Canada, explains that it means never spoon-feeding an infant pureed food; instead, he or she is given free rein to consume as much or as little as he or she wants during regular family meals. House thinks this approach leads to good nutrition, less pickiness, dexterity development, a healthy relationship with food, and healthy weight. Parents will know it's OK to start when their babies are six months old and seem excited to eat and grab at their food. House devotes more than half the book to baby-led weaning recipes, including beginner's items like steamed apple wedges, eggs cut into strips, two-ingredient pancakes made from eggs and mashed banana, and breakfast dishes like a sweet-potato omelet and banana-cinnamon quinoa waffles. They'd undoubtedly lose to Pop-Tarts in a head-to-head match. But it's worth seeing if a six-month-old might consider chocolate surprise pudding pops created with avocado and ripe banana. Read it and . . . eat.--Springen, Karen Copyright 2017 Booklist
