This crafts book is full of charm (and occasional awkward translations). Chinese author-artisans Fang and Yunyun have achieved their mission: to keep some of the most beautiful, most ephemeral things in the world flowers for a much longer time. Two dozen beauties, some recognizable worldwide, others foremost familiar in the East, fill most of the book. Each paper-flower project includes detailed directions via step-by-step captioned color photographs, and an illustrated list of materials and tools needed, from specific papers to knurling tools. The authors also include lyrical notes on each bloom's history, solar term represented, and the language/symbol of that particular flower (for example, roses mean I miss you). Beginning chapters capture the unique personality of paper flowers their lines, asymmetry, and fit with their environment along with the rather lengthy preparations needed to produce an arrangement. Behind the elegant simplicity of these compositions lie years of training and apprenticeship. A true reward for patient crafters.--Jacobs, Barbara Copyright 2010 Booklist

Liu and Yunyun, two experts in the art of handcrafting paper flowers, share their knowledge in this guide to creating 24 different varieties of lifelike flowers, which are presented seasonally and tied to the 24 solar terms of the Chinese calendar. Each project is described in an introduction, which also provides an illustrated listing of the materials and tools required. Directions include brief steps and -corresponding photographs, while suggestions for displaying each flower in the traditional Chinese manner emphasizes their natural beauty.
