Gr 4-8-This guide to the Disney adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle's classic novel A Wrinkle in Time gives readers an in-depth look at the people, decisions, and craftsmanship behind the making of the film. The opening chapter provides a brief biography of L'Engle and describes why the book is such a timeless classic. Other sections describe the selection of the cast and how the producers and director Ava DuVernay came together, the meaning behind sets and costumes, and the difficult efforts that went into crafting various planets and characters. Several of the cast members (including Oprah Winfrey, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine) are quoted, as are DuVernay, screenwriter Jennifer Lee (Frozen), and L'Engle's granddaughter, Charlotte Jones Voiklis. Large full-color photos appear throughout, including scenes from the movie as well as conceptual designs. The quotes from the filmmakers provide a great deal of insight into their interpretation of the meaning of the novel and how they chose to translate that on film. VERDICT This attractive, intriguing, behind-the-scenes movie tie-in will appeal to fans of the classic book and upcoming movie.-Ashley Larsen, Pacifica Libraries, CA © Copyright 2018.
