Vampirina, the pirouetting little vampire, makes her fourth appearance in this picture-book-series installment (Vampirina at the Beach, 2017), and this time she's got only one thing on her mind: playing in a winter wonderland. Vampirina and her monstrously lovely family (think Addams) exhibit childlike enjoyment as they frolic in the snow (well, most of them her teenage sister is reluctant from the start). Vampirina guides the reader through all kinds of fun one can have in the snow: making one-eyed snow monsters, sledding (with the help of some wings for steering), having an unexpected snowball fight. When the family meets a new friend, the Abominable Snowman, Vampirina's sister finally joins the fun. Pham's full-color illustrations are filled with cool, wintry colors that stand out against the crisp, white backdrop. At the center of the book is a large foldout of Vampirina and her family ice skating. This energetic, creepy-cute book makes a wonderful read-aloud for any classroom or story hour.--Rosie Camargo Copyright 2018 Booklist

In their fourth outing, Vampirina and her kooky-spooky family play in the snow. As usual, the deadpan text offers helpful tips--this time on sledding safety, proper snow-monster building, and other typically wintery activities--while the watercolor and ink illustrations show all manner of friendly fiends having fun together. Visual subplots (e.g., Vampirina's previously too-cool-for-snow-day big sister making a love connection with a teenage yeti) enhance both characterization and humor. (c) Copyright 2019.
