With interactive components, an engaging but never confusing design, and fun cartoon diagrams and illustrations, the In Training series offers introductory information to readers interested in STEM careers. Scientist in Training, by contrast, offers a broader approach; after a discussion of what type of person might want to become a scientist (someone curious and detail-oriented who likes to experiment and record results), each spread presents a different general field that might be of interest to a budding scientist, from animals and their habitats to the human body and its senses to sound and motion. Each volume contains both information-packed Theory sections and activity-rich Practicals, allowing readers to gain confidence as they move from section to section. A Hall of Fame showcases notable figures in the field, while an ending examination tests retention. A spinning wheel on each book's cover adds further interactive fun. With its plentiful activities, welcoming design, and easily digestible facts, this is an excellent classroom tool for early researchers.--Maggie Reagan Copyright 2018 Booklist
