Anyone who has avoided alcohol at a party or bar has had the experience: watching creative, complex, beautifully garnished drinks go by while sipping yet another ginger ale or club soda. Many restaurants and bars offer overly sweet and boring mocktails made by omitting the booze without any creativity or thought. UK chef and pub owner Liardet demonstrates that there can be so much more on tap for those who forgo alcohol. This attractive handbook for nonalcoholic cocktails is arranged by season and theme, including Fireside Glow and Lazy Sundays. The recipes comprise fresh, well-balanced flavors; many use seasonal fruit and herbs, and while some require advance preparation, nothing is out of the realm of the home kitchen. Drinks run the gamut from breakfast (Bloody Bull) to cocktail hour (Seedlip Asparagus Tonic) to dessert (After Eight Martini). Tasting notes provide serving suggestions as well. VERDICT An excellent choice for home mixologists.-Devon Thomas, Chelsea, MI © Copyright 2018. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
