Ice is nice!

Bonnie Worth

Book - 2010

The Cat in the Hat takes Sally and Dick to visit the North and South Poles, where they mingle with native animals-reindeer, musk oxen, polar bears, caribou, and all sorts of penguins. They discover how the animals stay warm in the freezing cold, learn why it's colder at the South Pole than at the North Pole, find out that one pole is located on land and the other isn't, and learn that scientists are studying climate change to keep both poles icy cold.

Review by Horn Book Review

Information about the North and South poles is disseminated, faux-Seussian style, by the Cat in the Hat with the assistance of Thing One and Thing Two. Topics range from patterns of light and darkness to native peoples ("You ask, are they nuts?"). Though it's basically correct, the information is superficial and skewed by forced rhymes. Everyone's smiling, though. Reading list. Glos., ind. (c) Copyright 2011. The Horn Book, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
