Review by Booklist Review

Finkle is a career coach and a self-described introvert. Her first book helps fellow introverts effectively market themselves using résumés and social media, and she coaches them through the interview and salary-negotiation process. She makes the case that extroverts are naturally better at marketing themselves, so she seeks to counsel introverts to use introverted qualities to their advantage to succeed in today's workplace. Tips are provided to effectively express themselves in interviews and meetings and to build a personal brand. Finkle offers suggestions for answering interview questions and presents stories and role-playing exercises. Additionally, Finkle gives advice on every introvert's nightmare public speaking. The book is a good tool for working introverts, and the tips and advice found here could also apply to young adults or older adults returning to the workforce.--Melissa Stock Copyright 2019 Booklist

Getting a job and thriving in the workplace present unique challenges to the 30-50 percent of Americans (depending on the source) who identify as introverts. Accordingly, career coach and writer Finkle provides valuable exercises and practical recommendations. Although hardly "complete" (there is no mention of cover letters in the job search section), this is a solid overview of issues such as résumé writing, interviewing, negotiating job offers, onboarding, networking, and self-promotion on social media. Reserved and inner-directed readers will find comfort in the knowledge that they need not be extroverted to succeed in the job marketplace. VERDICT For job searchers, professionals seeking advancement, and the career development specialists who serve them.-Alan Farber, Univ. of North Carolina, Chapel Hill © Copyright 2019.
