Claire and Sophie's traverse across the magical world of Arden continues in this exciting continuation of The Unicorn Quest series. Beginning right where book one left off, this sequel begins as the girls arrive at Stonehaven, the Gemmer (stone magic-wielders) guild's school-citadel, hoping to get help. Instead, however, they learn that war is more of a looming reality than they thought. In a search for answers how to find the unicorn that saved Sophie, awaken more of them, and restore peace and magical prosperity to Arden they encounter magical denizens old and new. What's more, this leaves readers with yet another tantalizing cliff-hanger that promises more thrilling adventures full of unicorns and alchemists and the most powerful magic of all: the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. With themes of patterns and history repeating itself, Benko's novel uses foreshadowing to set the stage for a huge reveal. Everything the sisters thought was impossible has been turned on its head, and they must rely on each other more than ever before. Hand this series to any fantasy adventure lover.--Kristina Pino Copyright 2018 Booklist

In a magical world threatened by darkness, two sisters continue their quest to restore peace in this second installment of Benko's debut series. On the Sorrowful Plains, Claire Martinson awoke the last unicorn in Arden from its 300-year imprisonment in stone. Although the unicorn's magic healed Claire's sister, Sophie, Arden remains plagued with danger. War threatens the four magical guilds whose powers dwindle year by year. The guilds struggle to protect their people from wraiths that haunt the night. Claire and Sophie carry with them a necklace that might be their only hope to bring back more unicorns, but they are surrounded by enemies and have no training to unlock the magic that could save Arden. Despite their newfound royal ancestry, both Claire and her seemingly confident sister battle their own secret insecurities, and the tension between them grows throughout the story. As Arden's unicorn legends resurface along the journey, Claire and Sophie discover repeating themes from the past to guide them forward. Plot twists and a cliffhanger ending offer an enticing incentive to continue the series.Picking up in the midst of danger that never withdraws, this continuation dives deeper into the mysterious legends that make Arden magical.
