Review by Booklist Review

Until the mid-2000s, interest in and information about polyamory were relatively rare, but then came the internet, and interest soared. Now Creation offers this first-ever memoir of growing up in a polyamorous family to partially satisfy that interest, although, frankly, their (the author employs the pronouns they, them, and their) book smacks as much of sociology textbook as memoir, and it can, admittedly, be a bit of a slog; also, given the number of persons in their family or tribe, Creation says it can be more than a little confusing. To bring some clarity, the author offers what they call a polycule, a kind of schematic of their family using molecular structures to offer a visual of the interrelationships among the 14 persons Creation considers as belonging to the tribe. There is also a glossary to help guide those unfamiliar with their vocabulary. Patient readers will find a wealth of information here, offered in the context of a loving, albeit nontraditional, family. The relative paucity of the information on the topic recommends purchase by many public libraries.--Michael Cart Copyright 2019 Booklist
