Futuristic electric trucks

Kerrily Sapet, 1972-

Book - 2020

"In the 1900s, many dairies, bakeries, and stores used electric delivery trucks. Trucks with gas engines which could go faster and haul heavier loads replaced them. Most of today's trucks--from pickup trucks to tractor-trailers--run on diesel, made from fossil fuels. Trucks, and other forms of transportation, are using up fossil fuels fast. Fossil fuels may be gone by 2050. Trucks also cause air pollution that harms people and the planet. Electric trucks may solve the problem. They are clean, green, and quiet. The race is on for people around the world to build them. Futuristic electric trucks are coming soon to a street near you."--Publisher's description.

Review by Booklist Review

The Futuristic Electric Vehicles series (6 titles) is appealing and informative, helpfully providing readers with the history of each vehicle to provide context for new developments. Some technical information differentiates electric from fossil fuel-powered vehicles, while interesting facts and photos add variety. Sapet highlights the environmental benefits of electric vehicles, as well as the specific uses of each type. Some titles focus more on current uses, and others on developmental potential. In Trucks, the author points out current uses of electric garbage trucks, forthcoming electric delivery trucks, and prototypes for electric semis. One danger is that these books will become dated as electric vehicles cease to be so futuristic, either by becoming more common, or by failing to live up to their predicted promise. For now, though, Sapet strikes just the right balance between current developments and more speculative possibilities.--Miriam Aronin Copyright 2019 Booklist
