Review by Booklist Review

Career counseling books aimed at women invariably incorporate how to surmount the mental and health challenges of a job, and this first book from Career Contessa website founder and The Femails podcast host McGoodwin is no exception. While her advice sometimes feels geared to millennials, there's much for all ages to learn and relearn from her power moves. There's some routine talk here on relationships, the art of saying no, abandonment of the elusive dream job, and other topics. Readers will get the most out of more emotional, less intuitive sections on how to really network well, identifying non-controllables (like misogyny in the workplace), and finding your personal circle of champions. There are some familiar-feeling charts to fill up (i.e., good information to gather about target companies) and new words/behaviors to recognize, like concrete ceiling and bropropriating. Plus, McGoodwin shares several other womens' insights on their former and current jobs and what makes them fulfilled. Both re-hashed and new material will leave readers with something to remember. Appended with a "14-day career detox power move."Women in Focus: The 19th in 2020
