This program looks at the role, character and functions of Australian cities with an emphasis on the State and Territory capitals. The first section shows the general features of these cities and then the main functions are examined. The importance of forms of transport to expansion of cities is shown together with discussion on the growth of cities and associated issues. Australia is one of the most urbanised nations on earth, and this program looks at the Western city as it provides homes and opportunities for most of the population of Australia. --Kanopy.
