The Width of a Circle concentrates on artists Adrian Saxe, James Melchert, Clayton Bailey and Stephen De Staebler. Though influenced by Peter Voulkos early in their careers, each broke free to make their own bold, inventive and artistic statements. Interviews with these four artists as well as critics and curators shed light on what has evolved into a diverse approach to contemporary clay art and to the social, political and philosophical implications of their work.
