Plugs removed from a wood block represent positive quantities and the remaining holes, negative quantities. Animated number grids reveal number patterns, which lead naturally into the negative zone. Our intrepid explorer also walks the number line, sometimes with dramatic results, when a calculation leads him into the negative zone.
