Review by Booklist Review

Some folks think starting a podcast is as easy as listening to one. It's not, but thankfully there are guides like this one from Weldon, host of NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast, that break the process down without sugarcoating the amount of work involved. (Spoiler: there's a lot.) Written in a friendly tone full of jokey sidenotes, this book guides the nascent podcaster through the four major steps of the medium: imagine, plan, create, share. Each section includes interactive exercises to help readers figure out what kind of podcast they'd like to start, and how much time, money, and energy it will entail. Weldon also includes detailed checklists for all stages of production and lots of real-world examples to back up his points from his colleagues on shows like Invisibilia and Planet Money, as well as the NPR Training Team. Some of the more technical points are laid out in bulleted lists, making them easier to absorb. Covering everything from concept to the right type of microphone to whether or not to monetize, this user-friendly, comprehensive guide is a must for potential podcasters.
