Two competing business empires in Brooklyn, three generations of a Black family, and three people with the same name and immense wealth drive this page-turning romance. When Jordan Dylan Devereaux III, known as Trey, receives a letter intended for her father, Deuce, she discovers that her grandfather Ace, whose business she is trying to take over, is dying. Jeremiah Benton, COO of Ace's company, has set up a meeting because he loves Ace, who took him off the streets as a teen and lovingly raised him after he disowned his own son, Deuce, for marrying someone of a different social class. Jeremiah is surprised when brilliant, gorgeous, curvy, and regal Trey shows up instead of Deuce. Trey's loyalty to her parents creates conflict when she discovers that she actually likes the grandfather she never knew before and realizes that she's falling for Jeremiah. Looking past all the designer shoes and huge, lavish penthouse apartments, LaQuette reveals the vulnerabilities and strengths Trey and Jeremiah bring to a deep, sincere, and very hot relationship.

LaQuette (Jackson) kicks off her Devereaux Inc. series--which follows the trials and travails of a dynamic, Black Brooklyn family--in spectacular fashion with this compulsively readable contemporary romance. High-powered businesswoman Jordan Dylan Devereaux III goes by Trey. Her father, Deuce, and his father, Ace, have been estranged for decades over Deuce's choice of a wife, and Deuce's most fervent wish is to acquire his father's business as retribution. He's spent years building up a rival corporation and now he tasks Trey with sealing the deal. But when Trey meets her penitent grandfather, who's dying of cancer and longs to reunite with his son, she has a change of heart--and she also falls for his second-in-command, Jeremiah Benton, who's as close to her grandfather as a son. The palpable chemistry between Trey and Jeremiah turns into a raging fire of lust and love, but when Deuce finds out about Trey's actions, she may risk losing her father. LaQuette's strong heroine and hero shine on every page as they fight their way to the happy ending they deserve; sneaker heads, meanwhile, will be especially taken with the descriptions of both characters' style. Readers will eagerly await the next installment to this irresistible series. Agent: Latoya Smith, LCS Literary. (Oct.)
