The Bride Wore Black

Streaming video - 1968

The incandescent Jeanne Moreau stars as an avenging angel in François Truffaut's homage to the films of Alfred Hitchcock that takes in its own strangely poetic ambiance. Based on a book by genre novelist Cornell Woolrich (aka William Irish) and shot by the legendary Raoul Coutard, the film -- about a widow who goes after the five men she believes murdered her husband on their wedding day -- provides a brilliant contrast between dark deed and the light-struck beauties of southern France.
