PreS-Gr 1--Sabrina Sue the chicken lives on a farm and uses her imagination to dream big. When she sets her sights on visiting the city, she approaches each of her friends to ask them how city life is different than farm life. Her friends downplay the appeal of the big city, but Sabrina Sue tries to bring the city to her farm by stringing lights along the chicken coops. After much deliberation, she plans to stowaway to the city in Farmer Martha's truck with the fruits and vegetables destined for market. The journey is an eventful one, and the adventure continues as Sabrina Sue and her frog companion see skyscrapers, eat popsicles in the park, ride in a taxi, shop for souvenirs, and eat hot pretzels. Those make Sabrina Sue homesick, so she brings a little of the city home to the farm when she buys enough pretzels to share with all of her friends. The text, using sight words and written in a large, clear font, is limited to one sentence per page and makes use of punctuation to aid learners in reading with expression. This a great title for beginning readers. Cartoon illustrations support the text and play up the humor of a little chicken's big city adventure, especially in the spread where Sabrina Sue is buying hot pretzels and a little boy delights in the sight. VERDICT A fun, fresh series for beginning reader collections.--Samantha Lumetta
