Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Williams puts the "real" in reality with her inspiring debut, a chronicle of the ups and downs that led to her success as a TV producer and reality show fan-favorite. Kicking things off snarkily, she writes that to protect "other people whom I've met and would rather forget, some names have been changed. Others have been erased." Though this sets up readers for a juicy tell-all, what follows is an affecting and intimate look at the resilient woman beneath the glamour. While she sets the record straight on some Housewives drama--including her "Miss America" scuffle with castmate Kenya Moore (whom she leaves unnamed)--her story finds gravitas in its candid take on overcoming childhood depression, a public divorce that left her temporarily homeless, and her overwhelming desire to have a baby with a man who, she writes, "seemed detached from the pregnancy and detached from me." The granddaughter of a prominent civil rights activist, she also shares how George Floyd's murder "woke up a birthright inside of me" and led her to become a champion of the Black Lives Matter movement. Fans will find much to love (and a few people to dislike, too). Agent: Tess Callero, Europa Content. (Nov.)
