Tell lies and they will snowball! In this fun story written entirely in Spanish, Fox just can't help himself and tells one lie after another. It starts as he lies about being close friends with flying superhero Superturtle. His friends believe him, and they pass along letters, ask for her flying secrets, and even bake her a cake. Fox doesn't want to be caught in his lie, though, so he fakes her responses. Luckily, Mouse helps Fox come to his senses when his lies ultimately put Squirrel in danger, but just when Fox comes clean to all of his friends, Superturtle appears! Fox learns the consequences of lying, and his friends still get to meet the coolest of heroes. The straightforward text is nicely complemented by adorable, warm illustrations that elaborate on the details of each scenario. A breezy illustration of lying and its consequences and the benefits of doing the right thing.

PreS-Gr 2--Woodland animal friends are gathered together near the lake when Ardilla makes a comment about wanting to fly. This leads to a discussion about SuperTortuga, an incredible super turtle who can fly and who performs amazing heroic feats. When Conejo exclaims that SuperTortuga doesn't exist, Zorro tells his first lie: She does exist, and she is Zorro's friend. This small lie soon snowballs as the friends ask Zorro for more information about SuperTortuga, to the point that he is expected to bring her to a party to meet the friends. When one of the lies puts Ardilla in danger, Zorro must finally tell the truth. The friends are shocked to learn that Ratona has a secret of her own. The woodland setting is both familiar and fantastical, with shades of coral, peach, and teal taking the place of the greens and grays usually found in such areas. Characters are also featured in lovely, out-of-the-ordinary colors, and the homes they live in are built into the large trees, adding to the magic of the setting. Whimsical illustrations and carefully paced expressive Spanish text bring to mind classic children's books and, together with the timeless lesson shared, are sure to make this title a favorite. VERDICT A beautiful selection and an excellent message about how small lies can quickly spiral out of control.--Selenia Paz
