Due to their masterminding a family wedding incident that went horribly awry, Finn Ransome, his brother Kieran, and their friend, Dominic Kilburn, have each been given one year to find respectable brides, or their families will cut off all financial assistance. So far, Kieran has succeeded in finding his perfect match, but Finn and Dom both are running up against the matrimonial clock. So when Finn discovers that wallflower and bluestocking Tabitha Seaton is in need of a husband to be considered for membership in London's prestigious Sterling Society, everything clicks into place. Finn will play matchmaker between Tabitha and Dom, who, unlike Finn, shares Tabitha's deep love of learning. It seems like the perfect plan, until Finn realizes he is spending more time with Tabitha than his friend. Readers who crave historical romances that are both cerebral and sensual will find that the latest insightful addition to Leigh's Last Chance Scoundrels series, following The Good Girl's Guide to Rakes (2022), perfectly hits their reader's sweet spot.

Finn Ransome would much rather spend his nights gambling than dancing with debutantes at a society ball. His dream is to run his own gaming hell, but he needs to wed before he sees a penny of his inheritance. Enter Miss Tabitha Seaton, a bluestocking in need of a husband of her own. Tabitha is desperate to join London's most prestigious intellectual society, which will only consider her if she's married. Finn, who has a reading disability, is worried that he's no match for Tabitha's mind and tries to set her up with his friend Dominic. When it's clear there's no attraction between those two, but plenty between Tabitha and Finn, they nervously agree to marry. Their physical chemistry and lovemaking is explosive, but Finn continues to fear he's not smart enough for his wife, while Tabitha anxiously guards against a broken heart. VERDICT Leigh's second "Last Chance Scoundrels" Regency romance (following The Good Girl's Guide to Rakes) takes a classic marriage of convenience plot and enhances it with a likable couple who clearly care deeply for one another. Recommended for fans of emotion-driven historical romances.--Kathryn Howe
