Book - 2022

"I never thought I'd see her again. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right? But five years later, my casino fling is my new next-door neighbor. A lot's happened since we got acquainted in that hotel room. I finished out my military career, took a job with my estranged father, moved to the beach...the only thing that hasn't changed is that Beatrice has always been on my mind. I can't let her get away again. Lucky for me, she feels the same way. Not so lucky, though, is our families' business rivalry--and our resorts' competition for the same property. As much as I want to ride off into the sunset with Beatrice on the back of my bike, we want to make this work. And that means smoothing things out betwee...n our families. If we thought finding each other after our night in Vegas was a long shot, this feud is about to give impossible a whole new meaning."--

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Marcelo's gratifying third Heart Resort romance (after Know You by Heart) returns to the Outer Banks couples' retreat, run by Beatrice Puso and her three brothers. Five years after the best one-night stand of her life during a Vegas trip, Bea's blindsided when Jackson Hill, the lover in question, moves in next door to her. Recently retired from the Army, Jackson's in town to work with his long-lost biological father, Dillon McCauley III, at his Willow Tree resort, and he's thrilled to reconnect with Bea. There's just one problem: the Pusos and the McCauleys are business rivals and sworn enemies. This long-standing animosity reaches new heights as both families fight to purchase the same land--and Jackson and Bea's budding romance might not survive the skirmishes. Marcelo rounds out this Romeo and Juliet story with a subplot about Bea working to pursue her side hustle, a subscription apparel brand called Beachy that she runs with her sister-in-law, much to the dismay of her brothers. Standout supporting characters also add to the fun, and returning readers will be pleased to check in with the extended Puso family. It's another sweet, solid outing. Beatrice Puso and Jackson Hill have a chance encounter in Vegas that they both cannot forget. Five years later, fate brings them together again when Jackson moves to the Outer Banks to be closer to the father he never knew and takes a job at his father's company. Beatrice is now Jackson's next-door neighbor, and her family owns and operates the resort that is the main competitor to his family's company. When they meet again, they pick up where they left off, but Beatrice convinces Jackson to keep their relationship a secret until she can find the right time to tell her family about him. A possible change to the Puso family business puts both families at odds, and Beatrice and Jackson get caught in the middle. They soon find out how secrets can destroy everything, and they each must determine if putting family first is more important than what they want for themselves. VERDICT Marcelo's latest "Heart Resort" installment (following Know You by Heart) is a heartwarming story about family, perfect for fans of Sarah Echavarre Smith and Kelsey Rodkey.--Ashli Wells
