In de León's latest #OwnVoices tale, following Queen of Urban Prophecy (2022), a young fashion student has the chance to bag a billionaire but instead falls for a poor climate activist who needs her help to bring a shady oil tycoon to justice. With her fair skin and keen fashion sense, Morgan Faraday could pass for a New York City socialite even as she embraces her Black and Latina heritage, and she knows she must keep up the pretense of wealth if she's going to get a proposal from Sebastian, her billionaire boyfriend. Fate intervenes when she meets farm boy Kevin Templeton, who is devoted to saving the planet from environmentally destructive companies, and sparks fly. Upon discovering Sebastian's criminal behavior, she agrees to help Kevin's cause by spying on Sebastian while living in his palatial apartment. The tension ratchets up until Morgan ends up in danger and has to run for her life, like generations of women before her also fleeing threatening men. De León's sexy page-turner cleverly turns the billionaire-bachelor trope on its head.
