Sakamoto days

Yūto Suzuki

Book - 2022

Taro Sakamoto was once a legendary hit man considered the greatest of all time. Bad guys feared him! Assassins revered him! But then one day he quit, got married, and had a baby. He's now living the quiet life as the owner of a neighborhood store, but how long can Sakamoto enjoy his days of retirement before his past catches up to him?! Time has passed peacefully for Sakamoto since he left the underworld. He's running a neighborhood store with his lovely wife and child and has gotten a bit...out of shape. But one day a figure from his past pays him a visit with an offer he can't refuse: return to the assassin world or die!

Review by Booklist Review

Sakamoto was once the fiercest hit man in the biz, but he left one day to keep his wife safe and honor their family promise not to kill people. When the old crew puts a hit out on Sakamoto, Shin does the humane thing: he accepts the job to kill his former teacher to make sure he doesn't suffer. Shin tracks Sakamoto to the neighborhood convenience store he runs, where he discovers that Sakamoto has become soft and lost the trim physique he had in the old days. However, trying to actually lay a finger on him proves to be impossible even for Shin's skills, as Sakamoto is still lightning fast! This over-the-top comedy delivers on the laughs and action while sprinkling in the genuine moments with enough finesse that this will appeal to a broad range of readers. This definitely fits in the vein of Spy x Family and The Way of the Househusband, so purchase if these types of zany comedies are popular with your teen readers. Some swearing and smoking/alcohol use places this best with older teens.
