Three fashion design students are accepted for an internship in Rome, where they will stay in the palatial apartment of one of their professors. Violet Luciano is older than the others, and they are adversaries in a competition that could allow her to follow her dream. After arriving in Rome, Violet does a little exploring and, when buying a coffee, accidentally breaks the laptop of a gorgeous guy, making him very unhappy. Arriving at the apartment, she discovers that the surly man from the coffee shop is the professor's son, Matt, who is a writer for a hit TV show described as "Grey's Anatomy meets Star Trek" and who is also living in the apartment. The interns work in an established design studio and, in their spare time, design their own five-piece collections that will decide who gets a job at a growing label in Midtown Manhattan. Friendships and romances coalesce in the world of fine design in Bromley's (Here for the Drama, 2022) fun fashion rom-com.

Bromley (Here for the Drama) doesn't miss a beat with this international enemies-to-lovers contemporary. Violet Luciano, 29, gets a step closer to the professional dreams that she put on hold for her ex-boyfriend when she wins the opportunity to intern with a fashion designer in Rome for a month. In the eternal city, she trips and falls into successful screenwriter Matteo "Matt" Leoni at a café. She is beyond mortified and apologizes profusely to the cold but gorgeous stranger--then she learns that he's her new boss's son and they'll be living in the same villa for the rest of the trip. They've gotten off on the wrong foot, but as they get to know each other, their witty hostility turns to genuine closeness and love. Rome offers Violet the opportunity to finally let go of her past, discover her passion, find genuine friendship, and embrace the love she deserves, and readers will root for her on every step of this empowering journey. The world of Roman high fashion provides a glitzy and appealing backdrop. This will be just as much of a treat for armchair travelers as it is for hopeless romantics. For recent grad Violet, finishing her degree means entering her 30s with massive debt and a golden opportunity: a summer internship at a Roman fashion label, with the chance to win a design competition and score her dream job in New York. After spilling coffee on a stranger and his expensive laptop and learning that the man is her hostess's son Matt, with whom she'll spend the entire month, Violet is not off to a great start. If she's annoyed at how infuriating and condescending Matt can be, she's doubly annoyed when their forced proximity unearths his vulnerabilities--and their mutual attraction. The more time Matt and Violet spend getting to know one another, the less she spends working on her designs and the further she spirals into self-doubt when pitted against her friendly and talented classmates. Faced with the choice between a whirlwind romance she thinks will fizzle stateside and the opportunity of a lifetime, Violet has to say ciao to something. VERDICT Featuring two emotionally mature, career-minded protagonists and lush Roman locales, Bromley's (Here for the Drama) breezy summer romance is perfect for fans of Elena Armas and Elissa Sussman.--Rachel Alexander
