PreS-Gr 2--A young girl is fretting about collecting 100 items for her class celebration of the 100th day of school. Without a moment's hesitation, Uni arrives to assist. The little girl has 50 things already and needs some inspiration to get another 50. Together, the two go outside on a neighborhood adventure to search for the needed treasures to fill out the collection. In the great outdoors they find and gather more and more items--leaves, a feather, stones, etc.--to round out the collection to 99. Now they need one more special item. With the magical touch of Uni's horn, a plain object is transformed into a beautiful final item. The little girl and Uni learn on their hunt that a best friend is truly the best treasure of all. Full of repeated one- and two-syllable sight words, this book also paces any new vocabulary well for early readers. VERDICT With the use of repeated words and three- to 10-word sentences, this book leads children into fun and excitement on each page.--Linda Annable
