Book - 2023

When the Butler sisters learn they've inherited their beloved grandma Betty's beach house in South Carolina, they have mixed emotions. To put it mildly. Successful Lana seems to have it all. Nobody needs to know that her marriage and finances are falling apart. For her there's no other option but to sell the beach house. Overburdened Yvonne already has priorities--including being her mother's sole caretaker. Her advice: put it on the market and move on. Then there's sentimental Tami. She can't let her sisters just unload their past without at least one last trip to the Sea Islands. They don't have a choice. If they're to collect, they must reunite and renovate their grandma's bequest. During a li...fe-changing month on the shore, the Butler sisters not only uncover family secrets but start to repair their broken bond through personal revelations and a newfound desire to keep their family legacy alive. It's not going to be easy, but it's a beautiful start.

When they were children, the Butler sisters would go down to Daufuskie Island in South Carolina to spend the summers with Grandma Betty. When Grandma Betty dies, she leaves the house to the three women, who are all but estranged, with the caveat that they must go to 'Fuskie and renovate it. Yvonne, the oldest, is dealing with a challenging career and caring for their stroke-stricken mother. Lana's picture-perfect life is marred by her husband's gambling debts. Tami, the youngest, is struggling to find her footing, not helped by the fact that her sisters think she's a screw-up. Over the course of a summer, the three dredge up old hurts and fight about what to do with the house once they're done (if they can find the money to pay for it). But slowly they come together, until a huge revelation about their late father threatens their newfound closeness. Arthur (Happy Is on Hiatus, 2022) plumbs the depths of family bonds with a moving, at times funny, story of sisterhood with a hint of romance.
