Review by School Library Journal Review

Gr 4--7--Polak's latest features captivating facts and real-world examples about the science and function of memory. The writing is fluid and easy to read, perfect for the middle school set. Memory is something we use daily; yet, how many of us stop to think about the inner workings of what our brain remembers and how it happens? Goulet's plentiful graphics will keep readers engaged; colorful illustrations serve as chapter headings and visually enhance the text, as do photographs, diagrams, sidebars, and lists. The table of contents makes it easy to find information on topics from "Memory Superheroes," and "Alzheimer's," to "History and Collective Memory." Polak's text explores memory from numerous angles and adapts its tone accordingly, from humorous to respectful and solemn when needed. The real-life examples are fascinating, and readers will come away with in-depth knowledge on the mind. Back matter includes a glossary and a list of resources. VERDICT A must-have title for libraries.--April Crowder
