Review by Booklist Review

In a foreword, journalist and author Meg Cox sums up quilt collector Wolfe's purpose: "Quilts are messengers and medicine." Well-known quilter-author Wolfe (Modern Quilt Magic, 2017) tells stories on almost every page, including interviews culled from her work with Quilters' Save Our Stories. A dozen "themes to reflect on and consider"--emotions/experiences realized throughout the quilting process--form the major chapters, ranging from identity and connection to friendships and celebrations. Expect tears, smiles, and outright laughter as quotes tug at heartstrings and stimulate minds: stories about trauma and radiation therapy, new sewing machines for aging hands, and magical approaches discovered during a retreat. Embedded within most chapters are instructions for 10 or so blocks that make up the author's "'kitchen sink' style" Experience Quilt, photographed throughout these pages. Each block can also be transformed into a quilt or pillow with striking visuals that appeal to modern and classic sensibilities. This is a crafting treasure that will both reinforce and inspire.
