Hot hex boyfriend

Carly Bloom

Book - 2024

"Delia Merriweather does not believe in magic. But she does believe in family, and her family happens to identify as witches. Their lack of magic doesn't dampen this heartfelt belief, because according to lore and legend, they're hexed. Convenient? Yes. True? Probably not. Thanks to a weird birthmark, the eccentric circle of Merriweather women believe that Delia is their blue witch. In other words, she's supposedly the person capable of restoring magic to the Coven Merriweather. However, A) magic isn't real and B) the spell is truly horrific and illegal in all fifty states. Who's going to boil a baby, for crying out loud? So, they're all completely blown away when Delia accidentally breaks the hex (sans ba...by-boiling obviously). Chaos and mayhem ensue, drawing the attention of the invisible witching world. And that includes the sexy, brooding, and excessively irritable Max Halifax who has recently moved in next door to settle his uncle's estate. Just when Max thinks he's done with his endless tour of duty-keeping an eye on the bumbling Merriweather women-he discovers Delia Merriweather has somehow broken the hex placed by his great-great grandfather. He worries that beneath the Merriweathers' seemingly harmless antics, lies the very real possibility that this gaggle of clueless witches will somehow stumble into their power and, like their ancestors, threaten to rule the witching world by controlling the hearts of men. Maybe it's even starting already. Because Max's heart beats erratically whenever Delia Merriweather is around"--

Bloom (Must Love Cowboys) successfully mixes Southern charm with magic in her first foray into the paranormal. Delia Merriweather has been told all her life that she is a blue witch with power over love and matters of the heart. Under the blue moon on her 30th birthday, she will finally come into power--or she would if her family were able to access their magic. Unfortunately, the Merriweathers have been hexed into powerlessness, and, with no proof of the mystical, 29-year-old Delia has stopped believing in magic altogether. As her birthday approaches, she struggles to balance her family's eccentricities with public opinion in small town Willow Root, Tex. Meanwhile, Max Halifax, her hot new next-door neighbor and a witch in his own right, has been sent to Willow Root from the hidden magical realm of Shadowlark to watch the Merriweather women and ensure the hex holds. If Delia manages to break the spell, magical mayhem will ensue and Max will no longer be able to tell if his growing feelings for her are true or the result of her blue witch powers. Bloom creates a whimsical and enchanting world in Willow Root and conjures some real chemistry between her leads. Fans of Practical Magic and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch will be hooked. (Sept.)

Bloom's (Must Love Cowboys) delightfully witchy romance follows 29-year-old Delia Merriweather, whose family believes they are witches. They've told Delia that they were hexed long ago and no longer have access to their magic; ever the skeptic, Delia doesn't really believe them, but she loves them so much that she doesn't argue. Delia has always been told she's a blue witch born under a blue moon, destined to release the family's powers on her 30th birthday. Max Halifax is a warlock whose family was responsible for hexing the Merriweathers generations earlier. He is tasked with preventing Delia from overturning the curse but finds himself increasingly drawn to her. When Delia unintentionally unlocks her powers, Max sticks close, helping her harness her newfound abilities before she accidentally reveals the existence of the witch community. Zion Jang and Lauren Knight narrate this fast-paced, emotionally rich romance. Their narration is balanced and evenly paced, with consistent, distinct voices for the main characters. VERDICT A charming story with "Sleeping Beauty" undertones that will make a great addition to contemporary paranormal romance collections. This novel may also appeal to fans of Erin Sterling and Hazel Beck.--Shannon O'Connor
