Perfect fit A novel

Clare Gilmore

Book - 2024

"A hilarious and heartfelt rom-com about having it all, slowing down to see the big picture, and finding out that the person you least expect could be your perfect fit Josephine Davis has spent her entire twenties building Revenant: a fashion brand headquartered in downtown Austin. When her biggest investor orders Josie to hire a consultant, the last person she expects to be working with is Will Grant - the twin brother of Josie's ex best friend. Sure, Will and Josie may have shared one mistake of a kiss during senior spring break nine years ago, but they've never been friends. She remembers him as moody; he always thought of her as shallow. Romance isn't on the table for either of them until they blink, and realize ther...e's a reason they can't stay away from each other. But there's Will's sister to consider - whom Josie hasn't spoken with since their falling out - not to mention, Will and Josie live seventeen hundred miles apart. And it's not like she has time for a boyfriend anyway when she's an overworked CEO. As Josie's burnout looms while she falls deeper and harder for Will, she contends with the fact that eventually, she'll have to make a choice: stay alone to be productive, or slow down to be in love"--

Josie Davis' clothing brand has come a long way since her first days sewing in her college dorm. It's expanded to the point where she wants her company to reach B-Corp status, and she needs a consultant to help. Meanwhile, in her role as maid of honor, Josie is trying to ensure her current best friend and marketing manager's wedding goes perfectly, but she's realizing that everything is going to change. After Will, a boy she once kissed and the twin brother of her former best friend, runs into her car with his bike, she learns he's from a firm she'd wanted to hire. She enjoys getting to know the smart, funny, thoughtful man Will has become. Even though she wanted his expertise for her business, spending time with Will shows her that there is more to life than work and taking MBA classes online. The rich detail of life in Austin, along with the fascinating, inside look at the clothing business, add a unique background to a delicious slow-burn romance.

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

This heartwarming second chance romance from Gilmore (Love Interest) follows Josie Davis, the 27-year-old founder and CEO of an online clothing company. Despite having worked tirelessly to get the business to where it is now--about to open a chain of brick-and-mortar stores in Austin, Tex.--Josie still suffers from imposter syndrome. When her biggest investor encourages her to hire a consultancy firm to assist her in the run-up to the opening, she hopes that following the advice will lessen her stress. Enter Will Grant. Nine years ago, a kiss between Josie and Will, the broody twin brother of her high school best friend, on the last night of their senior spring break, resulted in gossip and heartbreak. Now, Will becomes Josie's business consultant. As feelings resurface, the duo must keep old wounds and miscommunication from tearing them apart again. Throughout, Gilmore illuminates the struggles faced by female CEOs, and while Josie must learn to allow others to help her, Gilmore wisely keeps Will in a supporting role when it comes to Josie's career. The result is a couple readers will root for. Agent: Melissa Edwards, Stonesong. (Oct.)

Review by Library Journal Review

Josephine Davis was her high school's "It Girl" and was called "surface-level" for it by Will Grant, her best friend's twin brother. She thinks she has escaped all of that in her mid-twenties, until Will literally runs into the bumper of her car on the way to work one morning. Since he's temporarily in Austin, TX, for work, they begin to make amends as they develop a working relationship, merging her fashion brand and his consulting expertise. Gilmore expertly pens their relationship, showing how Josie and Will grew apart and then delicately back together and into themselves individually. Full of witty banter, shared mistakes, a great cast of characters (including Josie's two-woman "biker gang" and her coworker/best friend, bride-to-be Cami), and even a sneaky Taylor Swift lyric (Swifties will pick up on it immediately), the story that unfolds is one readers will flock to. VERDICT Perfect for fans of Emily Henry and Lana Ferguson, this book from Gilmore (Love Interest) is heartfelt, with a little grit and a lot of laughs.--Erin Holt
