Review by Library Journal Review

Houseplant breeder Sisti gently shepherds readers through various methods of houseplant propagation. She provides detailed step-by-step instructions that include clearly labeled photographs. Written in a chatty, pun-filled style, the book guides both newbies and experienced plant parents through all the information they will need to grow new plants from their existing ones, including basic plant anatomy, reproduction, tools, materials, and environmental needs. For each propagation method, Sisti lists the amount of time it usually takes a new plant to develop, the plants most suited to propagating via this method, and the equipment needed. She keeps the processes as simple as possible and offers cost-saving measures like using repurposed items when possible instead of purchasing expensive equipment. Sisti reminds readers that some plants propagate more easily than others, and that she has seen her share of dead houseplants too. Some methods require a great deal of patience, whereas other approaches, such as leaf vein propagation, are so surprising that readers may want to try them just to see a new plant grow from a sliced-up leaf. Back matter includes additional reading suggestions, recommended resources, and an index. VERDICT This engaging, encouraging, and accessible guide to houseplant propagation will appeal to plant parents everywhere.--Judy Poyer
