Review by Library Journal Review

Malek, cofounder of the popular Salt & Straw Ice Cream shops, and Goode, a James Beard Award-winning food writer, join forces to create a tribute to the classics of ice cream. The book begins with recommendations on types of ice cream machines to buy and other helpful kitchen tools to have on hand. Recipes for sorbet, ice cream, gelato, and even a vegan coconut base provide the building blocks for what is to come. Each section of the book then focuses on one ice cream flavor (vanilla, chocolate, coffee, rum raisin), with a recipe for a classic version followed by several delicious variations on the same flavor. Who can resist a scoop of smoked cherry vanilla, salted chocolate peanut butter, or bananas Foster-rum caramel ice cream? Many of the recipes feature delightful add-ins, including cereal, carrot cake, and even savory options such as cilantro. Each recipe is clearly and simply written for the home ice cream aficionado. VERDICT A straightforward cookbook that will delight, surprise, and inspire.--Ron Block
