Review by Library Journal Review

What if a person could add more years to their life by changing the way they eat? That is the premise behind the Blue Zones diet promoted by Dan Buettner and a group of scientists who discovered that certain approaches to food and certain global cuisines have shown to contribute to longevity. This new cookbook from Cider Mill Press (the cookbook isn't attributed to a specific author) explores that concept with the goal of providing a working cookbook that makes some of the ideas accessible while advocating for a greater emphasis on the inclusion of meat in Blue Zones eating plans. Illustrated with a smattering of color photos and some glorious, golden-age-of-travel-style illustrations, this cookbook offers 100 recipes drawn from Mediterranean, Asian, and Californian flavors. The recipes are written in a simple, succinct style (though at times, readers might wish for more detail) and include everything from roasted root vegetables and chickpea-quinoa bowls to grilled pork loin with green goddess pesto and fermented mango lassi. VERDICT Anyone overwhelmed by the original Blue Zone cookbooks may find this to be a more accessible, streamlined introduction to the dietary philosophy.--John Charles
