Review by School Library Journal Review

K-Gr 2--Really Bird and friends are back in their eighth book and are ready to (beach) party! Dog, Cat, and a variety of waterbirds bring everything needed for a really good day. There is plenty of food (snails, fish cakes, seaweed cake, cookies), noisemakers, a blanket, balloons, and themed plates (clam shells). There are activities including a fun swim before lunch and chasing run away balloons. As in the previous books, this has an early reader vibe, speech bubbles, and colorful uncluttered illustrations. Cat, Dog and Really Bird are depicted as anthropomorphic cartoons while the other partygoers are more naturalistic, which ties in well with one of the story activities that asks readers to find out more about the depicted waterbirds. Other activities include writing/idea prompts for planning a themed party, information about balloons, and directions for drawing Really Bird. VERDICT The eighth book in this easy reader series features a beach party filled with fun; purchase where need dictates or where "Really Bird" books are popular.--Catherine Callegari
