NYU law student Beatrice has had it with her best friend's divorce lawyer. It's bad enough that two of her college friends are getting divorced, but when Josh's lawyer is pushing for alimony from Jill, she goes to give attorney Nathan a piece of her mind. It's satisfying until she runs into him at a professional function alongside her mentor, who brought her in hopes that she could line up a job for post-graduation. Their verbal sparring turns into a searing good night kiss--and then Nathan subs in as a professor for a class where she is TA, forcing them into close proximity. They might work together now, but they're still on opposite legal sides of a divorce--even so, sparks begin to fly. Beatrice is shy of relationships thanks to her serial-marrying mother, and while she finds herself falling for Nathan, she starts to realize she doesn't know the entire story about Jill and Josh after all. The humorous chemistry and enemies-to-lovers trope between Beatrice and Nathan make the story a fun read from a promising author.

Review by Publisher's Weekly Review
Harding's witty debut stars prickly NYU law student Beatrice Nilsson, who's devastated to learn that her close college friends Jillian and Josh are acrimoniously divorcing. Her fury lands especially hard on Josh's high-powered divorce lawyer, Nathan Asher, who seems determined to leave Jillian penniless. After Bea storms into Nate's office and tells him exactly what she thinks of him, he starts to turn up everywhere--at networking events, teaching as an adjunct at NYU, and even just in passing on the street. Surprising herself, Bea finds herself liking Nate on a personal level, even more so when she learns about his dedication to caring for a sick family member. Still, her six-times-married mother and Jillian and Josh's breakup have made Bea gun-shy when it comes to romance. Can she suspend her cynicism and take a chance on forever with Nate? Harding convincingly illustrates Bea's fear of commitment while crafting wonderfully nuanced characters. The zippy plot and endearing love story will leave readers wanting more. (July)

Beatrice Nilsson is trudging through another year of law school at NYU--preparing for the bar, working as a teaching assistant, spending Friday nights doing laundry--when her law professor suddenly goes on medical leave, forcing Bea to work with Nathan Asher, the opposing attorney in her best friend's divorce proceedings. Determined to hate him in support of her friend, Bea is shocked when Nathan arranges networking opportunities for her and then brings her to stay at his place when her apartment is condemned. They spend a romantic weekend together, which Bea thinks will get Nathan out of her system. The weekend comes and goes, and Bea is sure she's too messy for love, comfort, and security, but Nathan is not easily forgotten. VERDICT Harding makes her solo debut (after cowriting the "For the Love of Austen" series with Audrey Bellezza) with this romance that has a fantastic New York City setting. A perfect balm for the love-shy heart.--Judy Garner
